NANC Meeting Press Release

Nepal Association of Northern California, under Article VIII Section 2 of its bylaws, organized their very first Special Meeting on May 4, 2008 at San Francisco’s Hilton hotel, plaza A in the presence of Majority of Excom (6 of 9), founders, previous office holders and around 150 members. Mr. Yan Rai, an excom, went through the process of formation of controversial Election committee, the decisions it rendered under the direct authority provided solely by President Mr. Dikendra Maskey, and the ramifications it created for 2008-2010 Excom. Asked to defend and clarify on behalf of the election committee, none were present. To settle the members’ curiosity, it was announced that the information of the meeting was mailed electronically to respective individuals, posted on NANC’s web page and could be even read on www.nepalipress.net/events.
The meeting continued under the chairmanship of Vice President Mr. Nima Sherpa due to no show by Mr. Dikendra Maskey. Participating speakers and individual members stressed on keeping this oldest and largest Nepalese organization free of political, ethnical (caste) and sexual influence for the betterment of Nepalese community. Co-operation on all sides was encouraged. The meeting concluded with the creation of a Negotiating team comprising of Mr. Ang Nawang Sherpa, Mr. Santosh Lama, Mr. Pratik Pande (y), and Mrs. Bishnu Gurung under the coordination of Mr. Ishwor Sapkota to resolve the existing crisis. If this team fails to find a solution by 35 days of this meeting, it would automatically be recognized as an Ad -hoc committee which would then form a new election committee to hold the democratic election for the up coming 2008-2010.
